Description

Black Americans are 14 percent of the population, yet Black CEOs make up barely 1 percent of the Fortune 500. Clearly America’s history of racism and discrimination, from the enslaved Africans arriving on our shores in 1619 to the white supremacist-fueled Black Codes of the mid 1800s to the racist practices of the Jim Crow era lasting through the mid 1960s, when it was still legal to include “Blacks need not apply” in job ads, continues to be felt in the workforce today. Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to hear, “We can’t find enough qualified candidates from underrepresented groups” or “We want someone who fits our work culture.” In this session, Gabrielle Gonzalez will take a closer look at the questions you need to start asking in order to uproot deeply entrenched barriers to racial justice at work, from interrogating the relevancy of your hiring requirements to safeguarding your interview process to ensuring retention of your BIPOC talent.
