Description

Sankofa is not simply a phrase or a symbol. It is a core value to racial justice work. Loosely translated as "go back and get it," Sankofa encourages us all to not only know the past, but to develop a historical consciousness so that we may use our power and identity more justly in this world. But because it is such a powerful mechanism for systemic change, Sankofa is under attack by forces that know that forgetting is the first crucial step to getting folks to participate in their own oppression. Join DEIA practitioners, authors, speakers, and activists Dr. Johnnetta Betsch Cole and Minal Bopaiah as they engage in a conversation where they illustrate their own personal understanding of Sankofa, how they apply it to their work as DEIA practitioners, and how we can all push back against the intentional efforts to erase our historical consciousness.
