Photographs are incredibly powerful, and they play a huge role in shaping how we see the world and the people around us. Selecting photos for your organization in a deliberate and thoughtful way is crucial for advancing antiracism work — especially in workplaces. It also has the power to make our culture more equitable for everyone. In this session, we'll use pop culture examples to unpack the subtle (and not-so-subtle) ways that racism shows up in photo composition, lighting, positioning and posing of models, editing, and order. We'll discuss practical ways to push racial justice efforts forward through photo choice, and review examples from the Brevity & Wit design portfolio. Not only will participants walk away from the session with the ability to look at all images in their world through a different lens, but they'll also know what to do to avoid the current lack of true representation in the future.
