Can a conversation be the catalyst for positive change, bridging gaps between people of different backgrounds? Yes! Are you ready to take your commitment to activism and social justice to the next level by honing your skills in effective dialogue and collaboration? The ability to engage in impactful dialogue is a vital tool for building bridges, fostering solidarity, and effecting positive social change. Based on Dr. Roxy Manning’s book, How to Have Antiracist Conversations, this session is designed to introduce people, both of the Global Majority and white, to tools and techniques necessary to engage in the Authentic Dialogue Framework, four distinct types of dialogues that facilitate connection, understanding, and collaboration in the pursuit of social justice.
• Dialogue to be Heard
• Dialogue for Healing
• Dialogue for Shared Understanding
• Dialogue for Solution
The Authentic Dialogue Framework is grounded in an explicit intention to address inequitable systems and political structures. It uses Nonviolent Communication principles and tools to facilitate conversations that aim to dismantle oppressive structures while integrating the concept of Beloved Community as discussed by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as a guiding principle for healing and activism. Participants will gain an introductory understanding of both Nonviolent Communication and Beloved Community and how they can bolster efforts to build equitable organizations. The presentation will include examples of application in organizational settings.
