Description
This workshop invites DEIJ (diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice) practitioners, HR leaders, and changemakers to explore the often overlooked racism faced by Arabs in the workplace. Although classified as white by the U.S. Census Bureau, Arabs and Arab Americans experience discrimination and face pressures to assimilate into the dominant racial order, similar to other marginalized groups. Globally, Orientalist narratives that depict the Arab world and Islam as the "enemy" shape negative stereotypes that can seep into everyday interactions. While Anti-Arab, Anti-Palestinian, and Anti-Muslim discrimination has long existed, the surge in cases since Sept 2001 and more recently since Oct 2023 further complicates how they navigate workplace systems dominated by mainstream racial narratives. Through critical discussions grounded in evidence, lived experiences, and anti-racist frameworks, participants will gain tools to support this overlooked identity and advance equity for all communities.
