Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programming and content are still often a closed door to disabled people thanks to a lack of accessibility. Exploring the nuances of multifaceted and holistic accessibility in DEI, this session examines how to better leverage these approaches to include people with disabilities in DEI initiatives. It will begin with a definition of multifaceted accessibility, centering it on the needs of people with disabilities within DEI-focused spaces. Utilizing a range of case studies from Lee’s experiences with programs created for marginalized people, the session will demonstrate common roadblocks to DEI initiative access, including lack of resources, insufficient support, and inaccessible content and offer best practices for multifaceted accessibility with real-world examples. Ultimately, this session will gently uncover instances of abled bias in DEI initiatives and and encourage a holistic approach to accessibility.
