Social media is the primary source for how organizations and professionals connect, communicate, and assess credibility. It shapes our perceptions of, and affinity to, professionals more than ever before. Platforms such as LinkedIn, TikTok, Instagram, Threads, and X not only shape how professionals are discovered, but also how they are perceived by colleagues and leaders.

This session will investigate the formal and informal ways organizations evaluate social media activity and how those evaluations influence employees’ career mobility, perceived professionalism and well-being. We will examine how these practices differ across roles, generations, and identities—and what that means for equity in the workplace.
