Description

Dr. Peyina Lin-Roberts’ global migration story, ultimately landing in the U.S., is one of every American, pertinent to the development of affinity groups as social justice tools, and a seed for liberation for all. Returning to Taiwan for college after having been raised in Central America for 14 years, Dr. Lin-Roberts did not expect to experience pervasive exclusion in her birth country. Years later, while attending a People of Color affinity group gathering at Michigan State University, she was surprised to find that she was the only Asian person in the room. By sharing her past experiences of rootlessness as a Third Culture Kid (TCK) American citizen, Dr. Lin-Roberts aims to inspire innovative thinking and bring clarity around racial fluidity within the development of anti-oppression skills — how such thinking can help us preserve the healing, educational, and empowerment functions of racial affinity groups, while also create inclusive structures and processes in support of liberation for all.
