In this fireside chat with Mary-Frances Winters, Jane Hyun, leadership strategist, author of Breaking the Bamboo Ceiling, and co-author of Flex, will share her personal story and insights from Leadership Toolkit for Asians, her most personal book to date. The session will be an interactive dialogue with Winters, who has known Hyun since 2005. The focus will be key insights and lessons learned, culminating in her upcoming book, Leadership Toolkit for Asians, a sequel to her seminal 2005 work, Breaking the Bamboo Ceiling, which brought Asians to the diversity and inclusion table. Hyun will share findings about Asians in corporate America (based on her 20 years of working with Fortune 500 companies with thousands of Asian Americans and Asian leaders across five continents) to explore the impact of culture on leadership development, as well as the barriers and the myths that continue to persist. We’ll talk about “digging deep” and “looking inward,” including what the pandemic and other recent events have taught her about the importance of taking care of yourself. She’ll share breakthrough moments that have helped her find her voice in her early career, how her father shaped her early confidence, and how those experiences have had a multiplier effect in her work with organizations. We’ll discuss the importance of mentors, advocates, and sponsors to create inclusive workplaces that drive business growth and innovation.
