Description

When it comes to the workplace, it’s a no-brainer that women of colour face unique challenges that impact their professional growth and overall well-being. Victoria Sepand’s 2015 thesis on “The Black Ceiling” sheds light on the barriers Black women face in their careers. This impenetrable barrier, or the “concrete ceiling”, more accurately depicts the reality of what women of colour experience. In this pre-recorded session, we will explore one central question: how might we create equitable workplaces that allow women of colour to thrive? We will unpack common challenges experienced by WOC at work and brainstorm strategies that can help navigate those challenges.

In this interactive workshop, participants will:

• Understand: Unpack the concrete ceiling and understand how it manifests in organizations and workplaces;
• Reflect: Explore common workplace challenges and biases that impact the career progression of women of colour;
• Apply: Brainstorm strategies, actionable next steps, and tangible how-tos to build more intentional and justice-centered futures.
