By acknowledging and addressing the intersectional experiences of dyslexic Black women in the workplace, organizations can create more equitable and inclusive environments where all individuals have the opportunity to thrive and contribute their unique talents and perspectives. This session will explore:
1. Intersectionality — and double marginalization: Black women with dyslexia may face forms of discrimination and marginalization based on their race, gender, and neurodiversity.
2. Educational disparities: Intersectionality acknowledges the systemic barriers that Black individuals, especially women, may encounter in accessing quality education and support for learning disabilities like dyslexia.
3. Cultural factors: Cultural factors within the Black community may influence how dyslexia is perceived and addressed. There may be stigma or lack of awareness surrounding learning disabilities, which can impact an individual's willingness to seek support or disclose their dyslexia in the workplace.
4. Supportive workplace practices: Creating an inclusive workplace environment requires implementing supportive practices that address the unique needs of dyslexic Black women.
