Description

As DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) becomes increasingly politicized and the anti-DEI movement gains momentum in the United States, efforts to center race and decenter Whiteness in DEI work have faced significant resistance, often labeled as divisive. Yet, in an era of rapidly diversifying workplaces, the urgency for anti-racism education disrupting White dominant workplace norms has never been greater. DEI practitioners and organizational change makers have a responsibility to confront racism and decenter Whiteness to successfully cultivate racially inclusive workplace cultures. When DEI efforts fail to address race and racism head-on, the integrity and effectiveness of these initiatives are compromised. This session will explore the complexities and challenges associated with disrupting and decentering Whiteness in DEI work. Participants will explore actionable strategies to disrupt systems of racism and White supremacy, which remain pervasive in many U.S. organizations.
